Assign and track deposits

how-to · Reviewed 2026-07-30 · FEAT-0011 GA

A deposit can only be spent from the workspaces it has been assigned to. Organization admins control that assignment, track consumption against it, and decide whether non-admin members are able to see balances at all.

You need to be an organization admin to assign or unassign a deposit. A workspace admin can see the deposits assigned to their own workspace but cannot change the assignment.

Assigning a deposit to a workspace

The same dropdown assigns and unassigns, grouped under those two headings.

Go to Teams > Workspaces in the organization admin portal and open the workspace you want to fund, or its setup page if the workspace is new. Open the Manage Deposits dropdown and choose the deposit from the Assign section. The list offers every active deposit with a non-zero balance that you are able to attach.

Removing a deposit works through the same dropdown, using the Unassign section instead.

There is a one-month window to unassign

A workspace can only be removed from a deposit during the calendar month in which it was added. Once a new month begins the assignment is locked, and only Rescale can change it after that. It is worth checking an assignment before month end if you are not certain it is right.

Tracking what a deposit has consumed

Where you see a deposit's details depends on your role, and each view is limited to the deposits that are relevant to it.

Each row reports Remaining alongside Amount after Transfer, and Remaining is the figure that reflects consumption. See deposit types for the full list of fields.

Running out interrupts work rather than just blocking it

A workspace needs enough deposit or credit coverage to keep a workload running, not only to start one. When coverage is exhausted, jobs and workstations may fail to start, and workloads already running can be interrupted part-way through.

Watch remaining balances and expiration dates together, because a healthy-looking total can conceal a large deposit that is about to lapse. Depending on your account's payment settings, keeping a valid credit card on file can prevent the interruption.

Pulling the consumption report

Selecting Consumption Report on any deposit row downloads a CSV breakdown of what has drawn on it. The summary columns in the portal will not answer the questions that come up at renewal time, and this report will.

Use it when you need to break usage down by charge type, such as separating compute from platform and storage. It is also the right artifact for seeing a month-over-month trend ahead of a renewal decision, and for comparing consumption across workspaces or individual users.

Hiding deposit balances from members

If you would rather regular workspace members did not see balances, a workspace admin can hide their Credits / Deposits page. The setting lives at Policies > Platform Settings in the workspace admin portal, where you turn off Allow non-admin members to view core prices and their billing summaries on the platform.

One toggle on Policies > Platform Settings governs all member-visible cost information.
That one setting hides four things, not just deposit balances

Turning it off has three further effects beyond hiding the Credits / Deposits page, and the last of them changes how work is scheduled rather than only what people can see.

A member's Charges / Usage page becomes Usage, showing consumption with no costs attached to it. Hourly price summaries, coretype prices and priority options all disappear from hardware settings while a job is being set up. The Pricing page becomes inaccessible. And because members can no longer choose a priority, every job they submit runs at the workspace's default hardware priority.

So this is a decision about whether members see any cost information at all, not only about deposit balances. If you want to hide the organization's deposit pool while leaving engineers able to see what their own jobs cost, this setting will not achieve that.
