MCP Server

The Rescale MCP Server lets an AI client you already use, such as Claude Desktop, drive Rescale directly. Rescale hosts the server; your client connects to it over the Model Context Protocol, you sign in with your Rescale account, and requests you phrase in natural language become actions on the platform.

This page covers when to reach for it and how it relates to the rest of Agentic Engineering. For connecting a specific client, the regional endpoints and troubleshooting, see Rescale MCP Server: Getting Started.

How it differs from Edison and agents

All three drive Rescale from natural language, and they differ in where you work and what the model already knows.

Where you workBest for
Rescale EdisonIn the Rescale platformAsking about your jobs, results and spending without leaving the UI
AgentsIn the Rescale platformA specific task with a defined outcome: validate an input deck, diagnose a failure, draft a report
MCP ServerIn your own AI client, against a Rescale-hosted serverDriving Rescale alongside other systems in one conversation

Edison and agents know the platform's own context, and Rescale maintains their behavior. The MCP Server trades that for reach: your client can hold Rescale, your code, your local files and any other MCP-connected system in the same conversation, so a request can cross between them.

What that makes possible

The value is the combination rather than any single call. Because your client can see Rescale and your other tools at once, you can:

  • Read a solver input file on disk, submit it as a job, and have the results summarized without moving files by hand.
  • Ask why a run failed while the model also has your source repository open, so the answer can point at the code that produced the input.
  • Pull usage and cost figures into whatever you are already drafting.

What it does not replace

The MCP Server is built for interactive use by a person working through an agent. It is not the path for production integrations, where you want explicit, versioned calls rather than a model deciding which tool to invoke. For those, use the REST API or the CLI.

It also does not add permissions. You sign in with your own Rescale account, and the connection is bound to one workspace, so it can reach exactly what you can reach and every action it takes is attributable to you.

Getting started

  1. Add the Rescale MCP server to your client and sign in, following Rescale MCP Server: Getting Started.
  2. Pick the endpoint for your Rescale region, and the workspace you want the connection bound to.
  3. Ask for something small first, such as listing your recent jobs, to confirm the connection before giving it real work.
