Manage a storage device
Extend capacity
Storage Device Settings → +Extend, enter a value, pick a unit. The button is disabled while the extension runs and re-enables when it completes.
On AWS, a 6-hour gap between extensions plus up to a day per extension means extending is not an emergency response. Set alert thresholds so you act early.
How many times you can extend is capped by the coretype you picked at creation, and the UI doesn't show that limit. You discover it when a request fails. See create a device.
If an extension fails with a cloud-provider message, that isn't terminal, retry later. The device's status page logs each attempt, including retries and provider-side refusals.
Share a device
Sharing is limited to members of the same organization, or Rescale Support for debugging.
Select the device → Actions → Share Storage Device → enter an email → Share.
Sharing the device is usually easier than re-sharing every job that uses the mount: see Contact Support.
A user you share with can use in-browser SSH, but their own public key isn't added to the instance. Key-based access stays with the owner.
Remote access
An HPS is reachable as a normal remote Linux host, which is the main thing it does that CFS doesn't:
- SFTP — Transferring files using SFTP
- SSH, including VS Code Remote — Accessing HPS, jobs, or workstations from VS Code
- rsync between devices — Migrating data between two HPS devices
Move data off before it terminates
Every device eventually hits walltime, so plan the exit.
Contact your Rescale representative to scope a larger move.
The walltime sync flattens the directory tree and drops permissions and timestamps. For anything organized, archive it yourself before the device goes.
