Download with Transfer Manager

how-to · Reviewed 2026-07-31 · FEAT-0027 GA

Download a whole job

  1. In the platform, open the job and go to Results.
  2. Click Download with Rescale Transfer Manager.
  3. If the browser prompts, allow it to open Rescale.TransferClient.UI.
  4. Pick a destination folder and click OK.

RTM creates a subfolder named after the job and streams the output into it. Wait for the row status to read Completed.

Downloading specific files

Most runs produce far more output than you want. RTM has two filter modes, and they're mutually exclusive.

Substring match

Enter a Job ID and a Search Query with regex disabled. RTM matches the query anywhere in the filename, .pdb matches any file whose name contains .pdb.

To find the job ID, open the job and copy the short alphanumeric code from the URL.

Regular expressions

Tick Advanced search (using regular expression) to switch the query field into regex mode.

Enabling regex breaks plain substrings

With regex on, a bare .pdb no longer means "contains .pdb": . becomes a wildcard. Switch deliberately.

Useful patterns:

GoalPattern
Several extensions^([a-zA-Z0-9\s_\\.\-\(\):])+\.(jpg|py|txt)$
Everything except two extensions^.*\.(?!jpg$|py$)[^.]+$

Regex is the right choice when substring matching is too broad, specific frame numbers, checkpoint intervals, or a named handful out of thousands of outputs.

Automatically downloading completed jobs

RTM can watch your account and pull output as soon as jobs finish. Useful for batch submissions where you don't want to click through each run.

  1. Click the gear icon → Settings.
  2. Enable Automatic Downloads.
  3. Configure:
    • Max job age (in days) — the oldest completed job RTM will pick up. 30 means only jobs created in the last 30 days are eligible.
    • Destination — the local folder.
    • Search Query — restricts to filenames containing this value. Blank downloads everything.
  4. Click Save.

A download should begin within a few moments.

RTM must stay running

Automatic downloads only happen while the app is open. Close RTM and newly completed jobs are skipped until you reopen it. They aren't queued.

Repeated downloads

For a transfer you run often, create a desktop shortcut rather than clicking through the UI each time: How to create shortcuts for RTM downloads.
