Templates

A template is a saved job or desktop configuration you can launch from repeatedly. It captures input files, software and license settings, hardware selection, core count, and walltime, so you do not rebuild the same run from scratch every time. Use templates when you, your team, or your organization needs a consistent starting point for a recurring workflow.

When to use a template

Create a template when any of these apply.

  • You run the same solver with the same baseline settings across many projects.
  • You want to share a validated setup with a coworker instead of screenshot-driven hand-offs.
  • Your organization requires users to start from an approved configuration rather than building jobs from scratch.

Templates pair well with DOE and parameter sweeps, because the DOE-specific pieces (parallel settings, processed filenames) also carry into the template.

Creating a template

You can create a template from a new setup or from an existing job.

  1. Set up the job or desktop you want to save. You need at minimum a hardware configuration (core count and walltime) and, for jobs, at least one software selection.
  2. Open the Save drop-down in the job or desktop header and choose Save as Template.
  3. Give the template a name you and your team can recognize.

To template an existing job, clone it first, then use Save as Template in the job header.

Using a template

Saved and shared templates show up in your template gallery, sorted by most recently used.

  1. Go to the template gallery.
  2. Click Create New Job/Desktop From Template, or click View All Templates to browse the full list.
  3. Select the template, make any per-run adjustments, and submit the job or launch the desktop.

If a template is shared with you, you can use it but you cannot edit it. Only the owner can.

Editing a template

  1. Open the template gallery.
  2. Click the Edit Template icon (the pencil) next to the template you want to change.
  3. Update inputs, software, licenses, or hardware as needed, and save.

Sharing a template

You can share a template with coworkers and teams so they can launch jobs from the same starting point. Open the template and follow the sharing flow described in the platform's sharing guide. Recipients can view and use the template, but cannot modify it.

Archiving a template

To retire a template without deleting the underlying jobs:

  1. Search for the template by name in the template gallery search bar.
  2. Select the check box next to the template.
  3. Click the Archive selected jobs icon.

Admin controls

Administrators can enforce template usage per workspace, under Workspace Admin → Policies → Platform Settings → Template Settings. There is no organization-wide equivalent, so each workspace is configured separately. Two controls are available:

  • Only allow admins to create templates. Limits template authorship to workspace administrators.
  • Only allow admins to create custom jobs or desktops without using a template. Members must start from an approved template rather than building a job from scratch.

The second is the stronger control: it means members can only run pre-approved configurations. See workspace settings.

To delete a template outright rather than archive it, an administrator uses the admin job list.

  • Jobs for details on the hardware, software, and license settings that get captured into a template.
  • DOE and parameter sweeps for running a templated solver across a range of inputs.
  • Automations for running scripts before, during, or after a job launched from a template.
