Rescale Edison

Rescale Edison is the Rescale AI assistant built into the Rescale platform. You can ask questions in plain language, from quick lookups of your jobs, files, results and billing data through to building and running full workflows. Administrators can use it to track spending and usage across the organization.

Edison was previously called the Rescale Assistant, or the AI Assistant. The name and the way you open it have changed. Your permissions and AI Credits are unaffected.

Highlights

  • Save repeat processes. As you work with Edison to run your processes, Edison remembers your steps and can save your processes as workflows so it is easier to run in the future.
  • Answers from your own data. Ask about jobs, files, workflows, results, or spending in plain language. Edison queries your Rescale account directly and charts the result where that helps.
  • Within your permissions. Edison only reads what you could open yourself. Administrators get organization-wide or workspace-wide answers, depending on their role.
  • Hands tasks to specialist agents. Describe what you need, and Edison routes it to the right agent, such as one that validates an input deck before you submit it.
  • Always in reach. Work with Edison sits in the left navigation on every page. The panel stays open, with your conversation, as you move between pages.

Prerequisites

  • Your workspace needs Advanced Modeling & Simulation or Agentic Engineering enabled. An administrator controls this.
  • You need an active account in at least one workspace.
  • You need view permission on any job you ask about. Edison works within your existing permissions and can't read a job you couldn't open yourself.

Open Edison

Click Work with Edison in the left navigation. It's available on every platform page, in the same place except the Admin portal. In the Admin portal, the Rescale Edison sparkle is on the top right.

Edison can be open in three modes, depending on how much room you want to give it:

  • Side panel overlay. Edison opens as a panel on the side of the screen, over the page you're on. Use it for a quick question without leaving what you're doing.
  • Inline. Edison sits beside the page instead of on top of it, so you can see the page and the conversation side by side while you work.
  • Expanded overlay. Edison expands over most of the screen. Use it for long answers, charts, or going through your chats.

Switch between modes with the controls at the top of the panel. Your conversation stays the same in every mode. Edison also stays open, with your conversation, when you go to another page. You can ask Edison about a failed job, open that job to look at the logs, and carry on the same conversation.

When the navigation is collapsed, Edison is the sparkle icon.

Work with Edison sits at the top of the left navigation

If the panel is already open, clicking Work with Edison brings it forward and puts your cursor in the message box, ready to type. It doesn't close the panel or start a new conversation.

To close the panel, use the close control at the top of the panel. Closing it doesn't discard anything. Text you typed but didn't send is still there when you reopen it.

If Edison is unavailable

If your workspace doesn't include Edison, you'll still see Work with Edison in the navigation, shown as unavailable. It tells you what's needed to turn Edison on and who in your organization can do it. Contact your workspace administrator, or your Rescale account team, to enable it.

Ask a question

Type in the message field at the bottom of the panel, then press Enter or click Send. Answers stream in as they're generated, so you can start reading before the response finishes.

If you're not sure what to ask, click the ? icon in the panel. It asks Edison what it can do and returns an overview of the questions and tasks it supports.

Chats

Each conversation with Edison is a chat. Within a chat, Edison remembers what was said and what it looked up earlier, so you can come back days later and continue without explaining your work again. Chats are kept separate, and nothing from one chat carries into another.

  • Start a new chat. Click New chat. Starting a fresh chat for an unrelated question keeps earlier context out of the answer.
  • Go back to a chat. Your chats are listed with the most recent first, each showing when its last message was sent. Select one to pick up where you left off.
  • Rename a chat. Edison titles each chat from your first message. To change the title, click it above the chat, or rename the chat from the list. The new name saves when you click away.
  • Delete a chat. Delete it from the chat list. Edison asks you to confirm first. A deleted chat can't be recovered, and deleting one chat doesn't affect the others.
  • Long chats. In a very long chat, Edison keeps the most recent exchanges in full and works from a summary of the earlier ones, so the chat keeps working rather than hitting a limit. The whole transcript stays on screen and scrollable. If you're moving on to unrelated work, starting a new chat gives Edison a clean slate and usually uses fewer AI Credits, since credit consumption tracks conversation size.

Your chats are private to you and stay in the workspace where you started them. Chats with no activity for 180 days are deleted automatically.

See how Edison got its answer

When a question takes several steps, Edison shows each step as it works, then clears them once it has an answer so the response stays readable. To see what it did, expand Show Work. You get a plain-language account of how it reached the answer rather than raw technical output, which helps when you're checking whether a number can be trusted.

What you can ask

Edison reads across several data sources on your Rescale account. For example:

  • Job metadata (software, hardware, status, custom fields, tags)
  • Simulation output and log files
  • Billing and usage records
  • Connected PLM data, when you provide PLMXML files

Because Edison understands job context, one question can combine engineering filters and metadata. For example:

Show me all wing designs tested at Mach 0.8 with a lift/drag ratio greater than 15.

Using Edison as an administrator

Administrators use Edison from the admin portal to monitor spending and platform usage without leaving the UI.

Ask financial questions

Edison answers billing questions directly and charts the result. You can break costs down by user, project, workspace, or hardware type in the same question.

What was our total charge last month?

Show me the cost of all failed jobs in the Project Titan workspace.

Show me the cost breakdown by user for Q3 2025.

Connect cost to what happened

Edison joins billing records to job metadata, so you can ask questions that would otherwise mean stitching reports together: the cost of failed jobs, spend by hardware type, or the cost of jobs with a specific tag.

What was the total cost of failed jobs last month, and which projects were most affected?

See the whole organization

From the admin portal, Edison reads billing data, job history, and user activity across your whole Rescale organization. You get an organization-wide view without switching between admin pages.

What administrators can see

Edison for administrators, formerly called the Admin Assistant, isn't a separate tool. It's the same Edison, answering from the organization and workspace data an administrator can see. Your role decides what it can read, not a setting.

  • An organization administrator can ask across every workspace.
  • A workspace administrator gets answers within their own workspace.
  • A member without administrator rights gets their own usage, because Edison never returns data you couldn't open yourself.

Hand a task to an agent

Some requests are better handled by a specialist than by general chat. Validating an input deck before you submit it, working a failed job through to a fix, or drafting a report from a campaign are each handled by a dedicated agent.

You don't have to choose one. Describe the task and Edison routes it to the right agent. The answer still comes from Edison. To pick an agent yourself, type / to list the agents available in your workspace. If the one you expect is missing, your workspace may not have the required subscription tier, which an administrator controls.

How Edison works

Edison interprets your question, turns it into queries against the relevant Rescale data (job metadata, simulation results, billing, connected PLM systems), runs them, and returns the answer with charts where they help. Every query runs against your actual account data, so results follow the permissions and scope of the person who asked.

Security and data handling

Edison is built on the same security model as the rest of the Rescale platform. Adding AI doesn't change who can see your data or where it's kept.

Your data and AI models

Rescale doesn't use your prompts, Edison's answers, or your engineering data to train, retrain, or fine-tune any AI model, and doesn't let any third party do so. See the Rescale service-specific terms.

Access follows your permissions

Edison runs every query as the person who asked. Permissions are checked at query time, so Edison can't return a job, file, or billing record you couldn't open yourself. Your role decides the scope: member, workspace administrator, or organization administrator.

Isolation

Your organization's data is kept logically separate from other customers' data. Knowledge base retrieval is filtered to your workspace. Chats are scoped to the user and the workspace they started in.

Encryption

Edison runs on Rescale's platform security controls, including encryption in transit and at rest.

Guardrails and human approval

Every request passes through safety guardrails, which are logged and monitored. When an agent is about to take an action that changes something, such as submitting a job, it asks you to approve first.

Retention and deletion

When you delete a chat, it disappears right away and is removed from Rescale's systems after that. Chats with no activity for 180 days are deleted automatically.

Compliance and security reviews

Rescale maintains SOC 2 Type II attestation and ISO 27001 certification, and supports GDPR. You can choose the region where your data is stored.

The AI Products Customer Data Security overview is available on request. Under NDA, your account team can share the Security Whitepaper, the SOC 2 Type II report, the ISO 27001 certificate, and the penetration test summary.
