Move files in and out

Getting data onto the desktop and results back off it. For what survives shutdown, read saving and syncing files first, since that rule governs this page.

Open files from an attached job

Attaching a job is the usual way to get existing data onto a workstation.

  1. On the desktop, open the attached_jobs folder.
  2. Open the folder for the job.
  3. Use input/ for the original inputs and run1/ (or the latest runN) for results.

You can open these directly in your pre/post tool: no copying needed.

Push post-processing output back to a job

Post-processing creates new artifacts: contour plots, animations, annotated images. To attach them to the job record so your team sees them on the platform:

  1. On the desktop, go to ~/attached_jobs/<job>/run1/, or make a subfolder inside run1/.
  2. Save the new files there.
  3. On the workstation's platform tab, click Setup (top left).
  4. Click Sync Files (top right).
  5. Review the list. Click the refresh icon if you've added files since opening the dialog.
  6. Click Sync files and wait for No files to sync, then Close.

The files now appear on the job's Results tab.

Save derived files under run1/, not input/

Files under input/ are presented as job inputs, which is misleading for something you generated during post-processing. Anything derived belongs in run1/ so it lands under Results.

Download from Rescale Files to the desktop

When what you need is in Rescale Files rather than attached to a job:

  1. Open the Cloud files icon on the desktop, this opens the Files tab in the session's browser.
  2. Select the files.
  3. Actions → Download selected files.
  4. Rescale zips them into the workstation's Downloads folder. Extract into ~/work.

Upload from the desktop to Rescale Files

  1. Open the Cloud files icon to reach the Files tab.
  2. Click the + icon at the top left.
  3. Browse for files, or drag and drop them onto +.

The upload goes straight to Rescale Files and is immediately available to other jobs, workstations, and teammates with access.

Download to your own machine

  1. Open the Rescale platform in your local browser.
  2. For job outputs, open the job's Results tab. Otherwise go to Files.
  3. Check the files you want.
  4. Actions → Download selected files.

For large transfers, use the Rescale Transfer Manager instead. It handles multi-gigabyte sets, parallel connections, and resumes after a failure. A browser download of a large result set is the wrong tool. See Files and storage.

Transfer over SSH

With SSH access configured, use scp, rsync, or sftp against the workstation as you would any remote Linux host. This is the fastest route for scripted or repeated transfers, and it doesn't require opening a desktop session at all.
